Summary of Platelet aggregation (Primary hemostasis)

-Link to entire video lecture:

-Can be measured by Complete Blood Count (CBC)

2. Secondary Hemostasis (Concerns coagulation cascade)

Intrinsic Pathway 12–>11–>9–(8)–>10–>(5)–>2 (Prothrombin)–>1 (Fibrinogen)

(7)

Extrinsic Pathway (Requires Vitamin K)

-Intrinsic Pathway can be measured by PT (Prothrombin Time)

-Extrinsic Pathway can be measured by PTT/INR (Partial Thromboplastin Time/International Normalised Ratio)

What are platelets? [Not true cells but are circulating fragments of a cell]

-Platelets are small, non-nucleated, biconvex discs (1.5-3.5 microns in diameter)

-Normal lifespan is 7-10 days, made in bone marrow

-Forms plugs to occlude sites of vascular damage, promote clot formation by providing a surface for the activation of coagulation factors and secrete factors involved in vascular repair.

-Contains four granule types:

(a) Alpha granules: Contains host of adhesion molecules, coagulation factors and growth factors

(b) Dense granules: Very electron dense and contains serotonin

The major effects of codeine are exerted on the central nervous system, and the bowel. Like other opiates, its primary effects are a result of binding to opioid receptors in the brain and other parts of the body. Codeine has a weak binding affinity for the mu-opioid receptors; however, roughly 5% to 10% of codeine is converted into morphine, which has a high binding affinity for mu-opioid receptors. The primary metabolites of codeine are morphine, and codeine-6-glucuronide. Not only is codeine converted into morphine in the body, but also several other active compounds. The approximate distribution is as follows: codeine-6-glucuronide (~70%), norcodeine (~10%), and hydromorphone (~1%)

Familiar with the Feingold diet? I was raised on that before anyone even knew what ADHD was and it was touted as simply a 'healthy' diet.
Big Pharma has just spent so much time trying to sell chemicals, they've obscured the primary nutritional research that's already out there. Only lately are people re-examining all the research that came out during that era with the Minnesota Starvation experiment. At some point in the 50s, nutritional science was shelved in favor of pharmacology.
Everything is a drug. If you're going to chase a zebra herd for a week, I bet you'll want to load up on carbs, not protein
